Q. How to give the same style to multiple posts/pages? How to use templates?
- Prototype your design: put the boxes you need and style them to your liking.
- In the “Content” tab, click the “Templates” button.
- In the Templates window, select “New Template”, click “Save” and give a title to your template.
- When you create a page you want styled like that, click again the “Templates” button to open the Templates window.
- Select from the list the template you created before (select the title).
- Click “Load” and the template will be loaded, ready for further manipulation.
Q. What is the “snap” function?
There are three types of snap:
- “Snap boxes to page”, means that boxes snap to the borders of the page (of the Zedity content). This is useful when you want to align the boxes at the borders.
- “Snap boxes to boxes”, means that boxes snap together at the borders. This is useful when you want to align the boxes one next to the other.
- “Snap boxes to grid”, means that the boxes will snap to the grid. This is useful when you want to align the boxes in row and/or columns.
To show the grid click “Show” button next to it (in the “Edit” tab, “Grid” option group). You can freely adjust the size of the grid to your liking by setting the width/height, so that you can achieve the perfect alignment you want.
Q. Can I use shortcodes in Zedity?
Although it is not an officially supported feature, inserting a shortcode into an Html box has been reported by many users as working fine in most cases. However, when you do so, you must take care of these points:
- When inserting the shortcode into the Html box, in the “Insert HTML” dialog, be sure to select “Safe mode: Disabled” from the dropdown.
- Save your content as “Standard” and not “Isolated”. From the “Content” tab on bar at the top, in the “Save” group select “Save mode: Standard” from the dropdown menu.
Q. What is the difference between “Isolated” and “Standard” save modes?
A good description of the two save modes can be found in the Zedity Settings page, reported below: Isolated mode: the HTML content is saved into a file in your Media Library and loaded inside an iframe into your page. This is useful to prevent the theme or other plugins from causing undesired modifications to your designs. Standard mode: the HTML content is saved inline, just like if it was created with the WordPress editor (and, as such, other plugins or the theme may modify it). This is the preferred mode for SEO and social sharing.
Q. Why the “Z” button appears only for the administrator?
Zedity needs the “unfiltered_html” capability to function properly, which is required to manage the Zedity contents. If you wish to use Zedity with another role (e.g. Author), you must assign the “unfiltered_html” capability to the Author role, or to any other role you wish to use Zedity with. To do that, at the moment there is no default role editor in WordPress, but there are many plugins that permit you to edit user roles. For example, with a simple search on WP: list of Role Editors plugins. Just pick the one you like more.
Q. Can’t find the “Z” button?
Ensure you have the visual editor enabled in your profile.
To review this setting: from the WordPress Dashboard, from the menu on the left choose “People->Your Profile“. At the top of the settings page, “Personal options” section, there is a checkbox “Visual Editor: Disable the visual editor when writing“. This must be unchecked so that the visual editor is available.
Q. Install plugin error: “Destination folder already exists”?
- Before updating your Premium plugin to the latest version, ensure that you have deactivated and uninstalled the previous version.
- You can do so from the WordPress Dashboard, Plugins page.
- Note: the update procedure will not affect your existing Zedity contents.
Q. UNZIPPED downloaded file on Safari?
- If you download the Zedity Premium plugin with Safari, by default Safari is set to unzip the downloaded file automatically.
- The easiest thing to do is to right-click on the “zedity-premium” folder that you find in the “Downloads” folder and then select “Compress“.
- This recreates the .zip file needed for the installation.
- Continue the installation as usual (for further info on how to install the Zedity Plugin, you can follow the steps here).
Q. What happens to Zedity content when you update the plugin?
- All the contents created with Zedity will remain in its place: they are not deleted or removed or modified in any way.
